OceanFirst Foundation Makes Atlantic City the First Stop in Awarding $150,000 in 2018 Arts & Cultural Grants

OceanFirst Foundation took the show on the road to Atlantic City, NJ, on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, when it presented grants totaling $7,500 to the Atlantic City Ballet ($2,500), The Schultz-Hill Foundation ($2,500), the Bay Atlantic Symphony ($1,500) and Atlantic City Arts Foundation ($1,000) as part of its 2018 Arts & Cultural Grant. Avanza Proyecto de Ley de Ruiz para Establecer Costos en Bolsas de un Solo Uso

TRENTON - Una legislación presentada por la Senadora M. Teresa Ruiz que impodría un costo en todas las bolsas de un solo uso, y cuyos fondos serían destinados a la reducción de plomo en las escuelas y en las comunidades, pasó hoy en el Senado.

"Las bolsas de un solo uso son extremadamente dañinas para el medioambiente y son responsables de gran parte de los desechos de plástico que afectan nuestras ciudades y océanos", dijo la Senador Ruiz (D-Essex). "Muchos otros estados han aprobado tarifas o prohibiciones completas sobre las bolsas de un solo uso, y cuando vimos ciudades haciendo lo mismo por su cuenta, sabíamos que era hora de actuar como estado".

A partir del 1 de octubre del 2018, se exigirá a las tiendas que cobren $ 0.05 por cada bolsa de un solo uso entregada a un cliente. El proyecto de ley se aplicaría a cadenas de tiendas, farmacias, supermercados o establecimientos minoristas que tengan más de 2,000 pies cuadrados de espacio comercial.

Los clientes inscritos como participantes en el Programa de Asistencia Nutricional Suplementaria (SNAP), el Programa de Nutrición Suplementaria Especial para Mujeres, Bebés y Niños (WIC), o el Programa Work First New Jersey estarían exentos de la tarifa.

Se les requeriría a las tiendas que muestren el número de bolsas proporcionadas y la tarifa total cobrada en el recibo entregado al cliente. Atlantic City, N.J. (May 9, 2018) – Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City announced today the stellar weekend entertainment that will surround the property’s highly anticipated grand opening on Thursday, June 28.  Grand Opening weekend performances will include seven-time Grammy Award-winning country superstar Carrie Underwood and Grammy Award-winning global superstar and entrepreneur Pitbull who will set the tone for the new go-to destination for world-class entertainment.  

Carrie Underwood will light up the stage on Friday, June 29th as the first performer in the all new Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena. Carrie came to the attention of the nation as the winner of the fourth season of “American Idol” in 2005. This launched her into superstardom, selling more than 64 million records worldwide and recording 26 #1 singles, 13 of which she co-wrote.  Earlier this year, she released and co-wrote the hit anthem “The Champion” for Super Bowl LII and most recently co-produced and co-wrote her powerful new single, “Cry Pretty.”

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on Saturday, June 30th will welcome Pitbull who will bring his style and music to the Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena to continue the grand opening weekend celebration. His single “Timber” featuring Kesha was a chart topper around the world, while his smash hit “We Are One (Ole Ola)” with Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte became the official theme song for the FIFA World Cup in 2014. Another stellar year in 2017 included the release of his tenth full-length album, “Climate Change,” a second co-headlining U.S. tour with Enrique Iglesias, the release of his first-ever “Greatest Hits” and a new Spanish single.

This announcement included a star-studded entertainment lineup with more than 50 shows and events that will go on sale Friday, April 20th. This unprecedented event will create sound waves for the coastal town with over 200 nights of music, ranging from A-list artists, epic bands and headlining comedians. Free monthly concert series to return to Atlantic City Library

Atlantic City-NJ , The Atlantic City Free Public Library will once again hold a free monthly concert series this year starting in April. The Second annual Third Thursday Concert Series will feature shows on the third Thursday of each month from April through September. All shows will start 5 p.m. at the Main Library.

  • Martin Payne & Friends on April 19 – Longtime Atlantic City Free Public Library staff member Martin Payne and his band mates will pay tribute to Atlantic City jazz musicians Johnny Andrews, Chris Columbo, Harvey Mason and Hassan Abdullah.
  • The Mayes Duo on May 17 – Classical guitarists Joseph and Kathleen Mayes, who teach music at Rowan University, have recorded three CDs as the Mayes Duo. Both have enjoyed long musical careers as part of respected ensembles and as soloists. Along with 20th century classical guitars, their performances showcase instruments such as the terz guitar, renaissance lute and Neapolitan mandolin.
  • Polash Gomes and Abhik Mukherjee on June 21 – Polash Gomes founded the Rageshree Music Institute in 1991, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Indian classical music and presenting this art form through concerts and educational programs. Abhik Mukherjee is a sitar player and vocalist who has performed at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Metropolitan Museum of Art and internationally.
  • Gina Roche’ Duo on July 19 -- The Gina Roche’ Duo will perform blues, jazz and original compositions with a Brazilian twist.
  • Phyllis Chapell & Skipper Kripitz on Aug. 16 – Phyllis Chapell (vocals/guitar) and Skipper Kripitz (drums/percussion) will play a unique mix of jazz, world, pop, originals and folk music.
  • Tony Day and the Across the Globe Music Group on Sept. 20 – Jazz artist Tony Day, whose talents range from studio musician and band leader to composer and teacher, has performed on drums and percussion with many jazz recording artists and for headliner acts in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
